How It Works - Enrollment Timeline

1
October-March

Research and Shortlisting

School options narrowed and initial admissions contact started. International schools run their own rolling intakes, so we approach them early.

2
April

Public Calendar Published

The Conselleria d'Educacio confirms the public and concertado admissions calendar on gva.es. We line up your documents against it.

3
May

Public Applications Open

In the 2025/2026 cycle the Infantil and Primary window ran 6-14 May, and Secondary/ESO 15-23 May. Catchment zone, set by your registered address, drives which schools you can apply to.

4
June-July

Results and Enrollment

Provisional lists in early June, final lists mid-June for Primary, with enrollment deadlines through to late July. We handle offer follow-up and confirmation.

5
September

School Start

First-day support and follow-up for transition continuity. A late-arrival fase extraordinaria also fills vacancies in July and early September.

Documents Every School Will Ask For

The exact list varies, but almost every Valencia school - public, concertado or international - will want the same core paperwork. Getting translations done early is what keeps an application on schedule.

  • Passports or ID cards for the parent and the child.
  • Proof of residence - a rental contract or utility bill. This is critical: it sets your catchment zone for public and concertado placement.
  • Previous school records, with certified Spanish translations if they are not already in Spanish.
  • The child's full vaccination history (cartilla de vacunacion).
  • Passport-style photos of the child.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should we start enrollment planning?
Start as early as possible, ideally 6-12 months ahead for high-demand schools. Public and concertado applications cluster in May - in the 2025/2026 cycle, 6-14 May for Infantil and Primary and 15-23 May for Secondary - so your empadronamiento and translated documents need to be ready before then.
How much do schools in Valencia cost?
Public schools are free. Concertado (semi-private) schools charge little to nothing, often 0-200 EUR a year for materials. International schools vary widely by curriculum and campus, typically running into the thousands of euros per year, so we factor fees, capital fees and bus costs into your shortlist.
Do children need Spanish before joining school?
Not necessarily. Age and school type influence adaptation speed. Be aware that most public schools in Valencia teach in both Valencian and Castilian Spanish, while international schools teach mainly in English.
How does catchment zone work?
For public and concertado schools, placement is based on your catchment zone, which is determined by the address on your empadronamiento. Where you register directly decides which schools you are eligible to apply to, so housing and school decisions are linked.
Is homologacion required?
It depends on age and level. We advise case-by-case and support the process, including the certified translation of previous school records.
Can you help with mid-year arrivals?
Yes. A fase extraordinaria runs in July and early September to fill vacancies, which is a genuine opportunity for families arriving mid-year. We support these urgent and off-cycle enrollment workflows as well.
